Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all editorial services provided by The Revision Witch, operated by Samantha O’Hare (“the Editor”).
By booking any service, signing an Editing Contract or paying a deposit, the Client confirms that they have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
1. Services
The Revision Witch provides editorial services including, but not limited to:
- Developmental Editing
- Line Editing
- Proofreading
- Editorial Reports
- Sample Edits
The specific services to be provided will be agreed in writing before work begins.
2. Quotations
All quotations are based on the information supplied by the Client, including the manuscript’s word count, genre and editing requirements.
If the manuscript differs significantly from the information originally provided or requires substantially more work than reasonably anticipated, the Editor reserves the right to revise the quotation before continuing.
Quotations are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.
3. Booking
A project is considered booked once:
- The scope of the work has been agreed in writing.
- The required deposit (where applicable) has been received.
- The Client has accepted the Editing Contract.
Booking dates are not guaranteed until the required deposit has been received.
The Editor reserves the right to decline any project.
4. Payment
Unless otherwise agreed within the Editing Contract:
- Projects with a total value of under £100 must be paid in full before work begins.
- Projects with a total value of £100 or more require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking.
- The remaining balance is due before the completed edited files are released.
- Payment is currently accepted by bank transfer.
- Payment plans may be offered at the Editor’s discretion and will be agreed in writing before work begins.
- Completed edited manuscripts, editorial reports and any accompanying documents will not be released until all outstanding balances have been paid in full.
5. Turnaround Times
Estimated completion dates are provided in good faith.
Every reasonable effort will be made to meet agreed deadlines. However, completion dates may occasionally change due to illness, emergencies or circumstances beyond the Editor’s reasonable control.
Should this occur, the Client will be informed as soon as reasonably practicable.
6. Changes to the Manuscript
The quotation and agreed schedule are based on the manuscript originally submitted.
If the Client substantially rewrites, expands or otherwise changes the manuscript after work has begun, the Editor reserves the right to:
- Pause the project.
- Revise the quotation.
- Amend the completion date.
No additional work will be undertaken until both parties have agreed the revised arrangements.
7. Client Responsibilities
The Client confirms that:
- They own the manuscript or have permission to submit it for editing.
- The manuscript does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright.
- The manuscript submitted is the version intended for editing.
- They understand that editing cannot guarantee publication, literary representation, commercial success or positive reviews.
8. Editorial Decisions
Editing is a professional service designed to improve clarity, consistency, grammar, style and readability.
All edits are suggestions.
The Client retains complete creative control and is under no obligation to accept every suggested change.
9. Confidentiality
All manuscripts and personal information supplied by Clients will be treated as confidential.
The Editor will not share, distribute or publish any manuscript or personal information without the Client’s permission unless required by law.
10. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The Revision Witch is committed to providing human editorial services.
The Editor will not use artificial intelligence (AI) to edit, rewrite, analyse or generate editorial suggestions for any part of a Client’s manuscript. Client manuscripts, extracts or identifiable portions of a manuscript will not be submitted to, uploaded to or processed by any public or third-party AI system for the purpose of providing editorial services.
11. Copyright
The Client retains full copyright and ownership of their manuscript at all times.
Nothing within these Terms & Conditions transfers ownership or intellectual property rights to the Editor.
12. Cancellations
If the Client cancels before work has commenced, any deposit paid is non-refundable, as it secures the Editor’s availability and booking.
If the Client cancels after work has commenced, the deposit remains non-refundable. Where the value of work completed exceeds the deposit already paid, the Client will be invoiced for the additional work completed up to the cancellation date.
If the Editor is unable to complete the agreed project, any payment relating to unfinished work will be refunded.
13. Liability
The Editor will exercise reasonable skill, care and professional judgement when providing editing services.
However:
- Editing cannot guarantee an error-free manuscript.
- Editing cannot guarantee publication, literary representation, commercial success or positive reviews.
- The Client remains responsible for the final version of the manuscript.
- The Editor shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from the use of the edited manuscript.
14. Communication
Communication will normally take place via:

The Editor will aim to respond to enquiries within a reasonable timeframe.
15. Privacy
Personal information is processed in accordance with The Revision Witch’s Privacy Policy, available at:

16. Client Acceptance
The Client confirms that they have read the quotation, Editing Contract, these Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy before work begins.
The Client has had the opportunity to ask questions before entering into the agreement.
Payment of a deposit, payment in full or signing the Editing Contract constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
17. Changes to These Terms
These Terms & Conditions may be amended from time to time.
The version in force on the date the Editing Contract is signed will apply to that specific project.
18. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland.
Any dispute arising from these Terms & Conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Northern Ireland unless applicable law requires otherwise.
